The Tour de Suisse 2023 again boasts a strong line-up. Both international stars and local heroes will be at the start. We present the favourites for the respective classifications and the biggest Swiss hopefuls.
Primeo Energie Leader Jersey
The field of cyclists with ambitions to take the overall classification is broad. The balanced route, which demands different qualities, means that fans can look forward to an intense battle. From our perspective, the following cyclists are the frontrunners to win the yellow Primeo Energie Leader Jersey:
- Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step)
- Gino Mäder (Bahrain Victorious)
- Sergio Higuita (Bora-hansgrohe)
- Neilson Powless (EF Education-Easypost)
- Romain Bardet (Team DSM)
- Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates)
- Jakob Fuglsang (Isreal – Premier Tech)
React Points Jersey
As in previous editions there is no classic sprint stage with a flat profile this year. For this reason it is not just pure sprinters who could take the react Points Jersey. Alongside record stage winner Peter Sagan, competing in his last Tour de Suisse, the following riders are favourites:
- Thomas Pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers)
- Biniam Girmay (Intermarché – Circus – Wanty)
- Wout van Aert (Jumbo Visma)
- Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck)
- Arnaud Demare (Groupama FDJ)
- Peter Sagan (TotalEnergies)
- Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step)
Bank WIR KOM Jersey
There are KOM points up for grabs in every stage, with the exception of the two Time Trials. We may well be in for a surprise and see a rider, who is often found in the leading groups, keep this jersey for some time. In the end, however, we predict the following candidates have the best chance of clinching the Bank WIR KOM Jersey:
- Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step)
- Gino Mäder (Bahrain Victorious)
- Sergio Higuita (Bora-hansgrohe)
- Romain Bardet (Team DSM)
- Quinn Simmons (Trek – Segafredo)
- Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates)
- Marc Hirschi (UAE Team Emirates)
Lend.ch Youth Jersey
All competitors under the age of 25 are eligible for the white Lend.ch Youth Jersey. The young riders with their sights set on the overall classification are particularly likely to claim this jersey:
- Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step)
- Quinn Simmons (Trek – Segafredo)
- Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates)
- Thomas Pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers)
- Mattias Skjelmose (Trek – Segafredo)
- Cian Uijtdebroeks (Bora-hansgrohe)
Favourites for both Time Trials
With two Individual Time Trials this year, we cast an eye the battle of man against the clock. Swiss aces Küng and Bissegger will have Remco Evenepoel breathing down their necks. Here are our favourites:
- Stefan Küng (Groupama-FDJ)
- Stefan Bissegger (EF Education-EasyPost)
- Rohan Dennis (Jumbo-Visma)
- Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step)
- Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma)
The complete starting list of all teams can be found here from Saturday, 10 June.
