The Tour de Suisse 2025 has been bolstered by two Host Cities just a few weeks after the end of the 2024 road cycling season. In the men’s race, Aarau will host the start of both the 2nd and 3rd stages and in Valtellina, the village of Piuro (Valchiavenna) has been named a finish location.
‘In Aarau, we have found a dream solution for the Tour de Suisse 2025,’ says Tour Director Olivier Senn. The centrally located city – in the Zurich-Basel-Bern-Lucerne quadrangle – is described by Senn as the ideal starting point for both the 2nd Stage with the finish in Schwarzsee in Fribourg and the 3rd Stage the next day in the direction of Heiden (AR). ‘We want to incorporate a circuit at the start so that the fans in Aarau can see the cyclists twice,’ says route planner David Loosli. Whether this potential circuit will be the same for both starts in Aarau is not yet determined. The precise route will be announced in the first quarter of 2025.
With its central location, attractive and diverse old town as well as exciting recreational areas, Aarau offers something for everyone. Visitors will be impressed by the variety of over 300 enticing shops, the picturesque alleyways of the old town and the varied cycle paths along the River Aare in the direction of the Jura. Aarau has it all and much more.
Mayor Dr Hanspeter Hilfiker is looking forward to the Tour de Suisse’s visit: “As the most important preparatory race for the Tour de France, the Tour de Suisse enjoys a great deal of media attention. We are therefore delighted that Aarau is a Host City and can present itself on the world stage.”
Valtellina chooses Piuro (Valchiavenna)
The first finish of the Tour de Suisse in the Italian Valtellina was announced several months ago. The region in the north of Italy has now agreed on Piuro (Valchiavenna) as the ultimate destination of Stage 4. The small town in the province of Sondrio lies between the Splügen and Maloja passes. ‘There are exciting options for us to reach Piuro. This day is guaranteed to deliver a spectacular stage,’ says David Loosli.
‘The arrival of the Tour de Suisse in Piuro is more than just a top-level sporting event, it is also a unique opportunity to showcase the beauty of the region,’ says Omar Iacomella, Mayor of Piuro.
